For the first time, Google's IPv6 IPv6 Adoption stats shows over 40%! (It's 40.33% on April 30, 2022.)

The most recent two weeks show both higher highs and higher lows than before, which is a good trend!

See Google's IPv6 Adoption graph.

Meanwhile, a broker of IPv4 addresses shows that the price of IPv4 addresses seems to have plateaued for the past 6 months at about $50/address. See https://auctions.ipv4.global/prior-sales

I decided to take a look again today at Google's IPv6 Adoption graph and I noticed the following:

  • While the 40.33% April 30th peak did not keep, we did hit 40% IPv6 usage again last Saturday, so hitting 40% isn't a one-time fluke.
  • In the same period of time, the lows were above 35%. I had read a prediction somewhere that IPv6 weekly lows would never get above 33%, so I am glad that prediction failed.

IPv6 usage is growing slowly, but it is growing!

Meraki is working on a beta firmware that will add IPv6 client isolation.  This means I will be able to start deploying IPv6 to the public Wi-Fi at work.  We are already around the 50% IPv6 traffic going to the the internet, adding IPv6 to our public Wi-Fi should increase these numbers.

Last I checked in our core between hub sites we are at 98% IPv6 traffic by volume.
